Maxime Souvent’s work is the result of an observation and investigation of our current environment. It revolves around questions about language, its awkwardness and frustrations. He looks for places where they can be found, especially in public spaces, and is interested in the way they exteriorize. This leads to a reflection on interactions, in a global way. More precisely, an interaction with objects, the elements of our environment, but also their influence on all social relations through the perception we have of these events. Are we before or after the storm? In many of Maxime’s works, it is often at this point in the narrative that the spectator appears and discovers the scene depicted. It is precisely this interval that is sought after: an absence of consciousness, a state where one abandons oneself to simple contemplation. It is at this point that the work, despite the forces to which it is subjected, finds its calm.
